Gun Sales Spike

US Gun sales increased dramatically in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and political protests. Of the 10 highest monthly gun sales of all time, 8 of the top 10 months occurred in 2020 or 2021. Overall, more guns were purchased in the US in 2020 than in any other year in our nation's history. March 2020 set a record with the highest ever monthly US gun sales of over 2.5 million guns sold. June 2021 was not far behind with 2.4 million guns sold. Only December 2012 following Sandy Hook, and December 2015 following San Bernardino shootings were higher.

US Gun Sales Accelerate

2020-2022 shattered prior records for gun sales in the US, with over 61M guns sold during that period. This period represented the 3 highest years for gun sales in US history. Gun sales in the US have risen steadily over the last 20 years, with peak gun sales occurring following mass shootings and renewed talk of gun control. Over the last 7 years, guns sales in the US have been between 14-16M guns per year. 2020 record sales of 22.8M was 38% higher than the previous highest year of 16M guns sold in 2016. 2021 and 2020 were subsequently the 2nd and 3rd highest years for gun sales in US history.

    Every year, over 80,000 Americans are killed or injured by gun violence. The majority, about 45.000 per year are killed. Another 40,000 are injured. 2021 was the most violent year in US history. The carnage includes thousands of youths under the age of 18 that are killed or injured from gun violence. Many are under the age of 11.
