Highest Guns per Person in the World

The US has by far the highest number of guns per person of any country in the world, at 1.2 guns per person. This represents more than one gun per US resident. This number of guns dwarfs every other country in the world. The next highest country is Canada with 0.35 guns per person, less than 1/3 the number of guns per person in the US. Many countries like Denmark, Spain, Ireland and Israel have less than 0.1 guns per person, less than 1/10th the number in the US. The United Kingdom, Japan. Netherlands and South Korea have less than 0.05 guns per person, less than 1/20th of the US.

The US has more civilian guns than any other country in the world, totaling 393M guns compared to 85M guns for 28 other comparable countries combined. This represents 4 times the number of guns as 28 other comparable countries combined, in spite of having less than half their combined population. Also, the US has more than guns than people at 1.2 guns per person, This represents 11 times the number of guns per person compared to 28 other comparable countries combined.

There are about 7.5 billion people in the world as of 2020. The population of the US is about 330 million people, and the rest of the world about 7.2 billion people. The 330M US citizens own roughly 393 million guns, equal to 1.2 per person. The rest of the world's 7.2 billion people own 467 million guns, or 0.06 per person, about 1/20 the number of guns per person owned in America.

Every year, over 80,000 Americans are killed or injured by gun violence. The majority, about 45.000 per year are killed. Another 40,000 are injured. 2021 was the most violent year in US history. The carnage includes thousands of youths under the age of 18 that are killed or injured from gun violence. Many are under the age of 11.
