More Guns Result in More Gun Suicides

States with higher gun ownership have more gun suicides. The average gun suicide rate for all states is 6.9 per 100,000 people per year. This is 10 times higher the gun suicide rate of 28 other high-income countries of 0.7. US states with high rates of gun ownership, called "High Gun States" in this study, have a gun suicide rate of 10.3 gun suicides per 100,000 people, or 50% higher than the US average. States with low levels of gun ownership, "Low Gun States" have 2 gun suicides per 100,000 people.

High Gun States have five times the gun suicide rate of Low Gun States.
